In this blog I hope to share the delights of being an Oxfam Volunteer in the Wilmslow shop. As my role involves the sorting and pricing of books much of my pleasure comes from the excitement of seeing what has been donated and matching one generous person’s donation with a customer’s interest. Recycling at its best.

On these pages I will present some of the donations that appeal to me personally and try and explain why I have chosen them. For the whole of 2012, I’m intending to post everyday that the shop is open, so nothing on Sundays or bank holidays. Apart from that (and my holidays) it will be a Book-A-Day-Blog. After the first year, my plans may change. I am not employed by Oxfam and the views will be my own.

I will try to update the posts and note if any of the items  have been sold.  Anyone wanting to have a closer look at any of the books will find them (if they are still in the shop) between 9.30 and 5.00 at

The Oxfam Shop, 11A Water Lane, Wilmslow, Cheshire, SK9 5AE

The telephone number is 01625 528070. If you are considering a phone enquiry please note that this is a general Oxfam shop staffed by volunteers. If your query is about a book ask to speak to the Manager or a book volunteer.

The shop’s email address is oxfamshopf1325@oxfam.org.uk. Please be as specific as you can in the Subject box so that the email reaches the right person as quickly as possible.

Just wanted to say thank you for liking my blog entry, I have no idea how you found me but it’s always nice when people stumble across my little blog. Funnily enough I’m not far from you, and tend to train around Wilmslow on occasion. I have definitely run past your shop a couple of times, and I used to work about 300 yards further down Water Lane. Small world.

Anyway – I like your blog, you’re a lot more dedicated to writing than I am! I never seem to have the time. Keep it up.

Here are some links which could help the shop too =)
It would be nice if you could add them on your blog.
Add an email and a phone number too, it might help for people to get in touch while interested.
Keep going on, you are doing a great job.

  3. Hi, hope all is well with you. I think your blog is great and I admire your reviews and what you aim to do. Please accept an award!

Hi! I’m Sue, and I’m from SlimKicker, a fitness/diet app and site. I bumped into your blog a few days ago and it captured my interest!

I’m contacting you b/c we’re about to release a fitness tracker (similar to FitBit) early next year, and are looking for bloggers who would be interested in receiving 1 for free to review when it is out (negative or positive).

Would you be interested in doing this? You can email me at: sue (at) slimkicker (com) with ‘Review’ in the email heading if you are.

A brief explanation of who we are, our site SlimKicker basically turns your fitness/diet goals into a level-up RPG game. The tracker will work in conjunction the website, and allow people to track calories burned and number of steps they walk automatically. The more they exercise, the more points they rack up! That’s basically how it will work.

Anyway, hope to hear back either way…

    – Sue

    • Hi,

It sounds interesting. Thanks for the suggestion. However, at present, my plans are for this blog to finish at the end of the year. I’ve enjoyed it but my commitment was a bit too ambitious! So I’m saying no. Good luck with your venture.
